Module content
Lectures:

Native and introduced plants of Poland. Practical way to identify tree and shrub species. Plant species used in forest reclamation. Plants of constructed wetlands. Communities of plants.
Biogeography. Introduction of species. Invasive species.
Wildlife in cities. synurbization and synanthropisation. Migrations of birds and behavioural changes over the last decades.

Practical classes:

Three study visits, 5 hours each.
1) At the end of the vegetation (October) – study visit near Krakow – forest plants, wetland plants, invasive species. Phenological phenomena.
2) Biogeography – study visit in Lasek Wolski, including zoological garden – adaptations of animals to environmental condition. Protection of biodiversity.
3) Winter or late autumn – visit at ne Vistula River near Wawel – bird species migrating to the city in winter. The phenomenon of synanthropization and synurbization. Identification of tree and shrub species when they have no leaves.

Method of calculating the final grade:

The base for the overall grade is the grade from the project (the report from the study visit) and a short oral presentation. Activity during the classes can also contribute to the grade, by improving the grade.

Basic knowledge of biology.
