Module content
Lectures:

Introduction to economic geology. Influence of economic geology on civilization development. General information, definitions. Processes of mineral deposits formation, 2D-3D morphology of mineral deposits, genetic classification of mineral deposits, classification of mineral deposits in relation to plate tectonic.
During the lecture, most important examples of mineral deposits, of different origin will be presented and discussed.
Endogenic deposits :
-magmatic deposits: carbonatites, diamonds, layered intrusions, Cr-podiform, PGM’s
-pegmatite deposits, albitite-greisen deposits,
-hydrothermal deposits, submarine volcanism and exhalation-sedimentary deposits, methasomatic type, stratoidal type of deposits
-SEDEX
-metamorphogenic deposits: skarn and algoma type deposits, deposits related to regional metamorphism, metamorphosed deposits
Exogenic deposits:
-deposits related to weathering,
-alluvial deposits
-evaporates deposits (rock salts, gypsum)
-biogenic deposits: oil and gas, sulphur, bituminous coals and lignites.

Practical classes:

Recognition of different kinds of ore minerals and alteration processes based on natural collection. Evaluation of economic importance of collected samples. Description of important factors controlling ore mineralization based on polish deposits of iron, copper, lead-zinc, nickel, salt-gypsum and sulphur deposits and deposits of oil, and coals.
