Module content
Lectures:

Neotectonics/recent geodynamics – active tectonics – morphotectonics – tectonic geomorphology – seismotectonics – palaeoseismicity: definitions, history of research, applications. Dating neotectonic events. Methods used: structural geology, geophysics, tectonic geomorphology, geodesy and space geodesy, recent stress field determinations. Recent faulting and folding: types, timing, rates. Global distribution of young geodynamic events: plate margins vs. plate interiors. Seismicity and palaeoseismicity in different tectonic settings. Case studies: California, Andes, SE Asia, Himalayas, New Zealand, Alps, Scandinavia, Mediterranean, and others. Poland: history of research, neotectonic subdivision, neotectonic and recent stress field changes, regional examples (Sudetes, Upper Silesia, SE Poland, Kleszczów Graben, Suwałki Lakeland, Western Pomerania, Carpathians).
