Module summary

The course aims at deening the basic idea of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), especially with regard to manufacturing and supply chain management. The issues concerning basic CSR idea, responsible production and consumption, fair trade, sustainable products design and transformation of CSR in supplier based manufacturing will be discussed. We will also outline how globalisation reframes the business relations, and examine the effect of MNC actions on overseas suppliers and competitors.

Module content
Lectures (30h):
  1. The new story about a business

    We discuss the current story about the business, its implications and try to understand what and why changes in globalized world.

  2. Evaluation and impact assessment

    We discuss the different standards and methods for evaluation and assessment of socio-economic impact, especially in the field of supply chain.

  3. What is a Corporation?

    We discuss the basic assumption about corporations and its conseguences for CSR
    We deepen into the concept of externalities and exercise critical thinking about business

  4. Ethical reasoning

    We try to understand how people thing and judge ethical things in corporations? We get to know the basic ethical theories (consequentialistic, deontological, virtue) and develope the ability in ethical reasoning.

  5. Basics of Corporate Social Responsibility

    Based on a case study we discuss the core elements and models of CSR

  6. Stakeholder Management

    We discuss the role of stakeholders in building corporate strategy and work on stakeholder map to understand the different expectations that these group might have toward organization

Workshops (30h):
  1. Working out a sustainable idea

    During the class we build teams which, while using creative methods develope the idea for project.
    Project is oriented towards developing a CSR strategy that aims at sustaining / greening supply chain or its parts. Project is prepared in teams partially online, partially at class.

Additional information
Teaching methods and techniques:
  • Lectures: The content presented at the lecture is provided in the form of a multimedia presentation in combination with a discussion, enriched with activating exercises relating to the issues presented.
  • Workshops: During the classes, the students solve different problems and work on a project related to the topic. The lecturer systematically applies the explanations and moderates the discussion with the group over the given problem. A part of the course is conducted online (blended learning)
Warunki i sposób zaliczenia poszczególnych form zajęć, w tym zasady zaliczeń poprawkowych, a także warunki dopuszczenia do egzaminu:

Student should attend to the class, complete all the assignments, specified at the e-learning platform
(inluding final test), as well as prepare and present the final project.
In case student fail to keep the deadlines he/she can extend the deadline given for completing the task. This may impact the final grade.
This needs to be in advanced agreed with the lecturer.

Participation rules in classes:

    – Attendance is mandatory: Yes
    – Participation rules in classes: Students participate in the classes learn the content according to the course syllabus. Students should constantly ask questions and explain doubts. Audiovisual recording of the lecture requires the teacher’s consent.
  • Workshops:
    – Attendance is mandatory: Yes
    – Participation rules in classes: Students are obliged to come prepared to the class, read all the required materials and cases indicated each time by the teacher, upload the required tasks. The student’s work assessment can be based on oral or written statements in the form of a colloquium, which according to the AGH study regulations translates into a final grade in this form of classes.
Method of calculating the final grade:

• 30 % Individual engagement (Class Discussion/Participation/Case studies) + 50% Group project and presentation + 20% Final test.
• All tasks are evaluated from 1-100. The scale used for assigning the grades is: 0-50% 2.0; 51-60%  3.0; 61-70% 3.5; 71-80% 4.0; 81-90% 4.5; 91-100% 5.0. If student fail he/she should correct one or more assignments, so to get the required level.

Sposób i tryb wyrównywania zaległości powstałych wskutek nieobecności studenta na zajęciach:

Max two absences are allowed. Every next unjustified absence may impact the student’s level of ‘individual engagement as an element of calculating the final grade. Student, who was absent during classes should perform obligatory tasks in the e-learning platform. In case of longer – justified absence student is obliged to discuss with the teacher the individual condition of passing the course.
