    In accordance with the mission and strategy of AGH, education at the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering in the field of Mining Engineering, speciality of Underground Mining seeks to shape students’ acquisition skills and practical use of knowledge, logical, constructive, perspective and creative thinking, fast and accurate inference and making rational decisions. Thanks to cooperation with employers, educational programs are adapted to the changing expectations of the labor market, while at the same time ensuring high quality at all levels of education. This enables the education of students with specialist knowledge of an interdisciplinary nature, which creates the possibility of easy adaptation to various positions in contemporary entities of the broadly understood national economy. The study program gives students the tools to create an attitude of mobility and entrepreneurship both during studies and at work, as well as shaping citizenship responsibility.

    The study program takes into account the requirements posed by the State Mining Authority and industrial plants thanks to which graduates can undertake work in appropriate positions and will be able to obtain qualifications in accordance with the requirements of relevant industry regulations. Great emphasis is placed on the role of mining engineering in obtaining raw materials necessary for the country’s economic development.

    The field of study: Mining Engineering belongs to the area of education in the field of technical sciences, in the discipline of environmental engineering, mining and energy. The field of study is related to such fields of study as: construction, geology, environmental engineering. Education in the field of Mining Engineering has been conducted since the beginning of the University’s existence, that is from 1919.
    The basic objectives of education at the second-level studies of the field of Mining Engineering, speciality Underground Mining include the transfer of knowledge and skills in the broadly understood technology of sharing, acquiring and processing various deposits of solid raw materials. To achieve these goals, the program of studies contains issues related to:
    • mathematics and technical sciences, earth sciences, mineral resources management and environmental management,
    • geology of deposits, metrology, geomechanics and mining machines,
    • underground or opencast access and preparation for the exploitation of solid mineral resources, management of mining processes, taking into account environmental issues and broadly understood general safety,
    • processing of various mineral resources, methods of their enrichment and environmental protection of these processes,
    • blasting techniques, forecasting and combating natural hazards in mining as well as designing and executing underground engineering structures.

    Graduates can take a job at:
    • underground, opencast and mine mining plants,
    • enterprises involved in the construction of underground engineering facilities including tunnels,
    • enterprises dealing in services for mining needs,
    • mine geophysical stations as well as mechanical processing and enrichment facilities,
    • design offices,
    • mining rescue stations,
    • geological enterprises and geotechnical construction,
    • mining supervision authorities.

    The analysis of the latest results of the graduate survey shows that after graduating from the field of Mining Engineering (previously Mining and Geology) almost 86% of graduates take up employment, and 7.8% can not find a job. In addition, some graduates undertake their own business. Others either continue their education or have a guaranteed job. The majority, over 82% of graduates, obtain employment in line with the field of study and the same percentage of employees has a contract of employment. While assessing the studies in the context of the work, 77% of respondents said that the studies prepared them completely or partially for professional work.

    The Faculty has the current institutional accreditation for the years 2016-2022 – Resolution No. 428/2016 The Presidium of the Polish Accreditation Commission of September 1, 2016 on institutional assessment at the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
    In all areas, the requirements were met “fully”. On the basis of the PKA report on the institutional accreditation carried out in 2016 at the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, the following recommendations were taken into account: the most frequently sought after literature items are supplemented in the Faculty’s library, students’ participation in questionnaires concerning classes and classes has been increased.

    At the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, there is a Consultative Council composed of representatives of the socio-economic environment. The Council is a platform for obtaining information and identifying the needs of the business environment. In the field of the Mining Engineering program, your opinion is expressed by the Training Commission at the Higher Mining Office, which indicates the scope of knowledge, skills and competences for graduates.

    Mining Engineering is a technical field, therefore the candidates for the major should have mainly mathematical and technical aptitude. Due to the very wide range of technical (engineering) issues, as well as other such as economic and legal issues, it is necessary to be able to think and formulate conclusions. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to expand his knowledge of basic subjects for this field of study (mathematics, physics and information technologies) at a higher level. Good health is also necessary as well as some organizational skills.

    At the second level studies, on the Mining Engineering, underground mining specialization does not have compulsory professional practice, but the student can individually undertake a 4-week professional practice after consulting with the supervisor.

    Zasady wpisu na kolejny semestr:

    The condition for passing the semester of studies is: obtaining credit for all compulsory courses for a given field, level and profile of education and specialties of classes included in the plan of this semester of study. Passing the semester of studies and confirmation of getting an entry for the next semester of study is made in the University’s ICT system no later than one week from the beginning of the next semester of study. In relation to a student who did not pass the semester of study or did not receive an entry for a given semester within the period specified in paragraph 6, the Faculty Dean makes decisions about the student repeating the semester of studies, on granting a leave or on striking off the list of students, depending on the course of study so far.

    Zasady wpisu na kolejny semestr studiów w ramach tzw. dopuszczalnego deficytu punktów ECTS :

    A student can apply for an entry for the next semester of study with the so-called allowable total deficit of PK def points. The application in this matter should be submitted to the Dean of the Faculty. Acceptable total deficit of PK def points, ranging from 9 to 12 ECTS points. In the event that the student fails to complete a larger number of classes, the Dean shall correct the semester student’s student plans referred to in §7 para. 18 RS, directing him to leave, during which the student is to make up for the arrears so far. The fourth and sixth semesters are control semesters. By the end of the sixth semester, all deficits from previous semesters must be compensated.

    Warunki odbywania indywidualnego programu studiów:

    A student of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, which fulfills the conditions set out in the Study Regulations, may study according to an individual study program, including a study plan, with the consent of the Faculty Dean. (Resolution of the Council of the Mining and Geoengineering Department No. 40/2015 of 29.10.2015). The student submits an application for an individual study program to the Vice-Dean for Education relevant to the field of study, with justification, by the end of the semester preceding the proposed changes in the study program. The student’s application for IPS should be accompanied by documents confirming the reason for applying for IPS. In the case of individual study programs including the selection of course modules, methods and forms of education as well as modification of the number of ECTS points required to pass the semester of studies, the Vice Dean for Education is appointed by a research and teaching supervisor. The research and teaching supervisor may be an employee of the University, having at least a PhD degree.

    The selection of the second level specialization takes place at the stage of recruitment for the second level studies, on the point-ranking principles.

    The aforementioned conditions are governed by the Resolution of the Faculty Council No. 31/2012 of November 29, 2012 – consolidated text (as amended by the Resumption of Resolution of April 24, 2014 and Resolution No. 17/2015, Resolution 49/2015, Resolution 18/2016, Resolution 1/2017 and Resolution 13/2017) The subject of the diploma thesis should be taken by the student no later than one year before the planned date of graduation. The list of diploma thesis topics together with their supervisors is made available to students in the semester preceding the diploma semester. The subscription to a given topic takes place at: https://dyplomy.gorn.agh.edu.pl/ at the latest in the semester preceding the diploma semester. The choice of the topic is a condition of the student’s entry for the last semester of studies. Changing the subject of the thesis, changing the guardian or submitting an additional subject is possible at the request of the guardian with the written consent of the Dean. However, the subject of the master’s thesis should be chosen no later than one semester. The condition for submission (registration) of the diploma thesis is the completion of all the studies provided for, including the plan of studies, subjects and practices (obtaining the so-called discharge) and a positive evaluation of the thesis by the supervisor and the reviewer. The scope and form of the engineering exam are made available to students no later than 3 months before the appointed date. There are two dates for this exam: first and corrective. Students who did not join the first date or who obtained an insufficient grade from that date are admitted to the term of the correct exam. In the event of a justified failure to take the Master’s examination, the Faculty Dean may set an additional date of the exam. After submitting the diploma thesis and obtaining a positive grade from the General Master’s Degree Examination, the student may proceed to defend his diploma thesis. The defense of the thesis takes place before the Diploma Graduate Exam Committee, composed of:
    a. Chairman: Dean of the Faculty or a person authorized by him,
    b. Diploma thesis supervisor,
    c. A diploma thesis reviewer.
    The diplomat presents the main thesis of his work (in about 10-15 minutes), and the members of the Commission can ask questions about the issues included in the master’s thesis
    The grade of the diploma exam is determined by the Examination Committee. The grade is announced to interested students immediately after the completion of the work of the Commission. For the preparation and submission of the diploma thesis, confirmed by obtaining a positive final grade for the diploma thesis and a positive grade for the diploma examination, the student receives 20 ECTS credits on the last semester of the second-cycle program.

    1. The Graduate Diploma Exam grade is determined on the basis of the weighted average of the General Directional Examination and Master’s thesis presentation, with weights 0.75 and 0.25 respectively, based on the provisions of the Study Regulations (§ 27 sections 2 and 4).
    2. The final grade, as a result of graduation, is calculated in accordance with the rules provided for in the Study Regulations with the use of appropriate weights, ie: 0.6 for the average grade from the studies, 0.2 for the master’s thesis and 0.2 for the final grade Graduate Diploma.
    3. The chairman of the Diploma Graduate Exam Committee in the presence of a diploma, announces the result of the diploma examination and the result of graduation.
